Final Fantasy XIII Dated For December 17 Final Fantasy Versus XIII’s title always — to us, anyway — implied some sort of sibling rivalry with FFXIII, but we never expected Versus XIII to overtake its numeral-centric older brother. Embedded in a flash site is apparently the Japanese release date for Final Fantasy XIII. That release date is December 17.
Thank URL twiddling. The flash site's URL had "_Before_" in it, and typing "_After" seems to bring up this image, which clearly states that the game goes on sale December 17, 2009. Previously, the title was announced for "this winter". The rumored date is Japan only. This release date is still unconfirmed. However, as local YouTube ads point out, Square Enix will be announcing the title's Japanese release date today. Thanks everyone who sent this in! Sources: kotaku.com |

Final Fantasy Versus XIII Dev Time "Comparatively Faster" Than FFXIII Final Fantasy Versus XIII’s title always — to us, anyway — implied some sort of sibling rivalry with FFXIII, but we never expected Versus XIII to overtake its numeral-centric older brother. However, even though FFXIII’s definitely coming out first, Square Enix’s Yoshinori Kitase says that FF Versus XIII’s development is moving at a “comparatively faster rate.” Apparently, many of Versus XIII’s developers leveled up and learned Hastaga while they were helping out with FFXIII. The “knowledge and experience” points they gained while giving FFXIII a boost are now proving invaluable in FF Versus XIII’s development. Kitase recently told us that FFXII will be launching this spring. Guess we’ll be seeing Versus XIII shortly after that. Sources: kotaku.com |

English
FFXIII demo will be new, 360 development 70% finished The English demo of Final Fantasy XIII will be in English and completely new and different from the Japanese demo, but only if there will be one. That’s what Yoshinori Kitase, producer for the game, told journalists at GamesCom earlier today. If a demo does come, it wont be on a Blu-ray or DVD. Instead, expect it on the PSN and Xbox Live. “…we are thinking of providing it in a downloadable format,” said the Square dev legend. “…if we were to provide the demo overseas, it would be a completely new version.” Kitase also confirmed that the Japanese development of the game for the PS3 is over ninety percent complete now, while development for the Xbox 360 version is over seventy percent complete. More over at Joystiq and IGN. The game will release in the winter in Japan for the PS3, but Kitase-san told VG247 today that the game will receive a simultaneous release next spring in Europe and the US for PS3 and 360. He also said they’re aiming to keep the amount of discs for the 360 version down to a minimum of three discs. Sources: VG247.COM |

Another new set of Final Fantasy XIII images As Final Fantasy 13's Japanese release draws ever-nearer, increasingly finalised media is being shown to the public. In this case, a small (but noticeable) uprising has occurred amongst the fans of the series, who have noticed that this latest batch seem to display slightly inferior graphics to what was previously promised. While the currently graphics are still nothing to be ashamed of, one must wonder where the quality of previous screen-caps and trailers has disappeared to, and why it has been replaced with a slightly more polygonal imposter. See for yourself below: ![]() Final Fantasy 13 releases in the Spring of 2010 in North America. The game will be released around December in Japan. Sources: The Magic Box and Sankaku Complex. |

Even more FFXIV Details The latest scans from Japan reveal some more information on the locations and gameplay of Final Fantasy XIV. First up, we have some names for some of the locations we'll be visiting in the game. There are three cities with three distinct styles announced - a Desert City, Uldaha, a Forest City, Gridania and an Ocean City, Rimsa Rominsa. The new system of controlling characters is known as the Armory System. Players will be able to change jobs freely - it's as simple as changing your weapon - and youc an do that anywhere as long as you have another weapon in your inventory. This means if there's a party short of a caster, you could switch to a magic weapon and then when you leave the party revert to being a fighter or any other class. All equipment boosts certain areas of combat or ability of a character, so if you want to be a power-house in one particular area you can switch your equipment to push yourself in that direction. Instead of levels or skills, everything will revolve around the 'skill level' of the items you are holding. A solo player in the game could for example carry both a staff and a sword, switching to the staff whenever they take a larger amount of damage in order to heal themselves. Changing is simple - just switch weapons - so it's not a difficult process to carry out. Traditional Final Fantasy series jobs like 'Warrior' and 'Black Mage' are being avoided with them replaced by new, fresh ideas. Source: UFFSITE. |
